WordPress to Custom Website

Your WordPress Site Is Costing You More Than You Think

Hosting, a page builder, a security plugin, a caching plugin, a premium theme, and someone to keep it all updated — the bill adds up, and every plugin is a door someone can walk through. We rebuild WordPress sites as custom-coded applications: faster, safer, and cheaper to run. Your content and your rankings come with you.

Why Custom Sites Are the Future

WordPress won because building a website used to mean hiring a developer for months. A theme and a page builder let anyone ship a site in a weekend. That trade-off made sense in 2012. The cost was a site assembled from thirty plugins written by thirty strangers, each one needing updates, each one a potential breach, and each one slowing the page down a little more.

That trade-off no longer makes sense. With AI-assisted development we write a custom site in days, not months — a real application with your pages, your blog, your forms, and your admin dashboard, and nothing else. No plugin marketplace, no theme lock-in, no WooCommerce shoehorned in to sell three products. The code is yours.

We run our own site this way, and we've moved client sites off WordPress the same way: a pet-sitting business, a membership organization that was paying for Elementor, Events Manager, and WooCommerce, and two sports news sites with more than 5,000 articles between them.

What Comes With You

  • Every page, post, image, and category — pulled straight from your WordPress database export
  • Every URL, byte for byte, so Google rankings and inbound links keep working
  • 301 redirects for anything that has to move, plus the old wp-content image paths
  • Contact forms, newsletter signups, and lead notifications — rebuilt, not re-plugged
  • An admin dashboard for posts, leads, and subscribers, with an AI writing assistant
  • User accounts, memberships, and paid subscriptions when the site has them
  • Analytics, structured data, sitemap, and an llms.txt for AI search — built in from day one

What WordPress Actually Costs Per Year

Managed WordPress hosting: about $360

WP Engine's entry plan runs about $30 a month for one site. Cheaper shared hosting exists, and it is where most of the hacked sites we clean up came from.

Page builder: about $60

Elementor Pro, Divi, or similar. Required just to edit the layout you already paid for.

Security plugin: $149

Wordfence Premium, because a site made of plugins needs a plugin to watch the plugins.

Caching plugin: $59

WP Rocket or similar, to make a slow site acceptable. A custom site is pre-rendered and fast without it.

Premium theme renewal: $50 to $80

Annual, or you lose updates and the site drifts out of compatibility with PHP and WordPress core.

Maintenance plan: $1,200 to $3,600

Agencies charge $100 to $300 a month to apply updates, restore backups, and fix whatever the last update broke. That is where most of the money goes.

Total: roughly $1,900 to $4,300 a year

Before a single hour of real improvement to the site. A custom site has none of these line items — just hosting and care, usually for less than the managed WordPress hosting alone.

What's Included

01

Free site review

We inventory your plugins, pages, forms, and traffic, and tell you what the rebuild involves and what it will cost.

02

Content migration

Posts, pages, media, categories, authors, and users moved from your WordPress export into a real database.

03

Custom build

Next.js front end, Python API, Azure App Service. The same stack we run pulseaisolutions.com on.

04

SEO preservation

URL map, redirects, metadata, structured data, and a Search Console check before and after go-live.

05

Go-live and DNS

You see a working first version before anything switches. Cutover is a DNS change, with the old site kept as a fallback.

06

Hosting and care

Hosting, SSL, backups, uptime monitoring, error review, and same-day patching when a vulnerability hits — on one flat annual fee.

07

90-day bug fix warranty

If something breaks, we fix it.

How a Migration Works

01

Export

You give us WordPress admin access or a database export and the uploads folder. We take it from there.

02

Rebuild

We build the new site on a staging URL and import your content. You review it while the old site keeps running.

03

Verify

Every old URL is checked against the new site. Forms are tested end to end. Search Console is connected.

04

Cut over

DNS points to the new site. We watch crawl errors and traffic for the first weeks and fix anything that moved.

Who This Is For

  • Small businesses paying a monthly WordPress maintenance fee and not sure what it buys
  • Anyone whose site has been hacked, defaced, or quietly redirected to a pharmacy in another country
  • Membership organizations and clubs running Elementor, Events Manager, or WooCommerce for a handful of features
  • Publishers with years of posts who are afraid a move will cost them their Google rankings
  • Owners who want to add AI — a chat agent, an AI writer, lead scoring — and can't bolt it onto a page builder

Leave WordPress — Straight Answers

Will I lose my Google rankings if I move off WordPress?

Not if the migration is done properly. We keep every URL exactly as it was — including posts that live at the domain root — and 301-redirect anything that has to change. Pet Sitter Frederick kept 39 articles at their original URLs through the move and the rankings held. Search Console is connected before cutover so we can see any crawl error the day it happens.

Can I still edit the site myself without WordPress?

Yes. Every site ships with an admin dashboard for posts, pages, leads, and subscribers, plus an AI article writer that drafts posts for you to approve. What you give up is the plugin marketplace and the page builder. What you get is a site that doesn't break when you aren't looking.

How much does it cost to move from WordPress to a custom site?

Less than most people expect, because AI-assisted development has collapsed the hours a custom build takes. The free site review gives you a fixed quote for the rebuild and a flat annual fee for hosting and care. Compare that fee to what you pay today for hosting, plugin renewals, and a maintenance plan — for most small-business sites, it is lower.

What happens to my WordPress plugins?

Most of them exist to patch a gap in WordPress — caching, security, SEO metadata, forms, backups — and a custom site doesn't have those gaps, so they go away. Plugins that do real work, like events, memberships, or payments, get rebuilt as features of the application.

Do I own the code?

Yes. It is standard Next.js and Python in a Git repository you can hand to any developer. No theme license, no plugin keys, no lock-in to us.

How long does a WordPress migration take?

A brochure site with a blog is usually live in two to three weeks. Sites with memberships, events, or thousands of posts take longer, and the site review will tell you how much.
