What CalorooAI Is
CalorooAI is our consumer AI product: snap a photo of a meal and it identifies the food and calculates calories and macros. It also scans barcodes and returns a 0–100 Caloroo Score rated against your own allergies, sensitivities and conditions — not a generic health grade — and it ships with Roo, a Boston Terrier AI coach that handles the nutrition questions a tracker normally leaves you to Google.
It's the hardest product in the portfolio, because consumer AI is judged on accuracy by people with no patience. The entire positioning is that most AI trackers leave you correcting their mistakes — which meant we had to actually be better, not just claim it.
The problem
AI calorie trackers promise you can photograph a meal and be done, then guess badly enough that you spend longer fixing the entry than you would have spent typing it. Accuracy is the whole product, and most apps treat it as a feature.
What We Built
AI food scanning
Photograph a meal and the app identifies the foods and calculates calories and macros — the core interaction, and the one everything else is judged against.
The Caloroo Score
Scan a barcode in the aisle and get a 0–100 rating before you buy, weighted for your allergies and conditions, compared against its shelf-mates, and honest about what it doesn't know.
Allergy detection
Set an allergen profile once and get automatic warnings when a scanned food contains a trigger — the feature that turns a tracker into something people rely on.
Roo, the AI nutrition coach
A conversational coach for meal advice and motivation. Personality matters in consumer apps: people talk to Roo, and people don't talk to a database.
Calorie burn tracking
Workouts and cardio logged against the daily target in the same app as the food — no second app, no second subscription.
Streaks and gamification
Daily streaks, XP and achievements, because a calorie tracker only works if it's opened tomorrow.

Claude handles the reasoning and coaching, with purpose-built vision and barcode pipelines behind the scanning. Choosing the right model for each job, rather than one model for everything, is a large part of what we advise clients on.
